The safety classifier finally stopped billing you for the lecture
A small number of extra tokens, until someone notices the meter.
Summary: @ClaudeDevs said Auto mode runs a classifier on every tool call and that as of 7 Aug 2026 that classifier overhead no longer counts toward usage limits on Pro, Max, and Team. Enterprise and API get the change once Auto mode is default for those users.

What landed
@ClaudeDevs posted on 7 Aug 2026 that Auto mode runs a classifier on every tool call, using a small number of extra tokens.
As of that day, classifier overhead no longer counts toward usage limits on Pro, Max, and Team. The same change comes to Enterprise and API users once Auto mode is the default for those users.
Same-day parent thread: Auto mode would become the default permission mode in Claude Code for Pro, Max, and Team starting August 14.
Why it matters
If a safety sidecar bills against the same weekly cap as the work, users pay twice: once in tokens, once in caution. Removing it from the meter is a trust fix dressed as a changelog line.
Satire margin
The classifier still talks. It just stopped putting it on your tab. Enterprise can wait.
