What landed
On 20 Jul 2026, Anthropic status logged: some Claude Code Max users were incorrectly prompted to spend usage credits to access Fable 5, even though Fable is included on that plan. Official advice: restart Claude Code if hit. Incident marked resolved later that day.
This landed the same day Fable 5 was supposed to be in Max and Team Premium at 50% of limits (see the 18 Jul plan announcement).
Why it matters
Billing UX that asks for credits on an included model is not a cute edge case. It is product-trust slop: the contract says included, the runtime says pay-as-you-go.
Satire margin
Nothing bonds a subscriber to a product like being charged for the perk the marketing email just celebrated.
