Fable 5 is back, with new safeguards and a 50% weekly cap

Welcome back. Half your week of the shiny model. The other half is Opus when a classifier gets nervous.

Summary: claudeai announced Fable 5 is back. Thread covers updated cybersecurity safeguards after US government conversations (more false positives short term, fallback to Opus 4.8), unchanged biology/chemistry classifiers still broader than desired, and promotional access on paid plans through July 7 at up to 50% of weekly usage then credits or other models.

What landed

@claudeai posted “Fable 5 is back” and a multi-part thread:

  1. Safeguards: Following conversations with the US government, cybersecurity safeguards were updated. Vast majority of coding work said unaffected. Near term, safeguards may flag a slightly higher fraction of harmless requests; users get notified and receive Opus 4.8 instead. Biology and chemistry classifiers unchanged from initial launch and still broader than they would like (basic biology-adjacent questions can fall back to Opus 4.8); improvements said to be landing soon.

  2. Access window: All paid plans with usage included can access Fable 5 through July 7. Use Fable 5 up to 50% of weekly usage, then switch models or continue via usage credits.

  3. Feedback: Mistaken flags in Claude Code via /feedback; claude.ai and Cowork via thumbs. Blog link for Fable 5 / Mythos 5.

Why it matters

This is not only a capacity promo. It is a return of a restricted model under tighter safety routing, plus a calendar and percentage on who gets how much Fable.

Satire margin

Through July 7. Unless extended. Spoiler: the extensions also got filed. The classifiers kept their own subplot.
